Reading Rally events are one of the ways EWI promotes literacy the community. Throughout the years Reading Rally events have made a difference in today’s youth across the nation.
In 2005, Reading Rally became a part of the Leadership Conference & Annual Meeting (LCAM) experience. Academy of Leadership Alumni participants were invited to visit a local Boys & Girls Club in Salt Lake City where a new reading room had been decorated and stocked by EWI representatives and firms.
The Reading Rally was held on October 19, 2011, at the Girls Inc. North Omaha location. Committee Chair Shirley Gunderson read the book "Arrowhawk" to 25 fourth grade girls. Following the reading, the girls each made a pine cone bird feeder, an activity that tied into the theme of the tale. Each of the girls were able to take their own copy of the book home.
Thanks to all who purchased the books for this event or donated the treats and goodies, and a special thanks to Shirley for heading up the committee. Other committee members include Alecia Hartwig, Cheryl Hahn, Cheryl McCall, Jenni Chleboun, Darlis Vauble, Linda Jensen, Mindy Begley, Patty Bain, Ruth Utman, Shannon McGree, Sharon Latham, Sue Burkhard, Gail Thompson and Janet Schawang. And a big thank you to Girls Inc. for providing the excellent space!
